About Girra: Fraser Coast National Art Prize

By entering the Prize, you agree to have read and abide by the below Terms and Conditions.


Eligibility and Requirements:

  • The Prize is open to all Australian citizens and residents aged over 18 years at the time of submission.

  • Submitted artwork must have been produced within 18 months prior to the closing date of the call for entries.

  • Artwork can be any visual art medium including, but not limited to, painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, installation, performance, and video.

  • Submitted artwork must address theme of people, place and the environment, as evidenced through the artwork itself and/or the supporting text.

  • A submission can consist of a single piece or a multi-piece artwork which must be considered a single artwork.

  • One (1) artwork may be submitted per entrant.

  • There is no size limit for work submitted. Please be aware of potential freight costs before submitting larger/heavier works.

  • The submitted artwork must be available for the exhibition dates and for acquisition into the Hervey Bay Regional Gallery Collection.

  • The value of the work must not exceed $25,000 (ex. GST).

  • The submitted artwork must not have previously been a finalist in another art prize.

  • Only fully completed and paid entries received by 5pm (AEST) on the due date will be considered for pre-selection. Entries must be submitted via the Gallery website unless otherwise arranged with the Gallery prior to the submission deadline.

  • Artworks must be the original, uncopied work made solely by the entrant (unless entering as a collective).

  • Employees of Fraser Coast Regional Council (inclusive of HBRG) are not eligible to enter the Prize.


Selection and Judging Process and Criteria:

  • All entries submitted will be reviewed by an internal pre-selection panel.

  • The number of artworks selected for the finalists’ exhibition is at the discretion of pre-selection panel and Gallery.

  • The Major Prize will be selected by a judging panel consisting of the Gallery Director and two (2) arts sector professionals.

  • The People’s Choice Award will be awarded at the conclusion of the exhibition, as determined by public vote.

  • Finalists will be selected based on the submitted artwork’s connection to the prize theme and excellence or rigor in concept, research, skill, innovation and/or experimentation.

  • The pre-selection panel and judges’ decisions are final, and no further correspondence will be entered into.


Copyright, Originality & Promotional Use:

  • Finalists are required to grant non-commercial use license for promotional purposes and will be contacted for commercial use if required.

  • Finalists agree to allow the Gallery to photograph and reproduce their work for the purpose of promoting the Prize. All reproductions of artworks will provide full attribution of the artist.

  • The artist of the winning artwork will be provided with a separate agreement regarding transfer of ownership and copyright terms.


Exhibition Logistics and Delivery/Return of Works:

  • The artwork must be available for loan and display at Hervey Bay Regional Gallery between 22nd August and 16th November 2025.

  • Finalists must arrange for the delivery of their artwork to the Gallery during 28th July and 1st August 2025. Non-acquired works must be collected between 17th November to 21st November 2025.

  • The Gallery will not facilitate the sale of any artwork to the public, nor take any commission. Potential buyers will be advised to contact the artist or their representative directly.

  • All shortlisted artworks that are part of the finalist exhibition will be insured by Fraser Coast Regional Council during the loan period, which includes installation, display and demount.

  • Fraser Coast Regional Council will not accept any liability for any damage or loss inflicted that occurs to artworks during transit.

  • HBRG will provide each finalist with an artist fee of $450 to contribute to associated exhibition costs. 

  • Artwork must be packaged in a way that is suitable for the type and fragility of the work. Artworks will be repackaged for return by the Gallery using the packaging in which the works arrived.

  • Artworks must be labelled with the artist’s name and artwork title.

  • Artwork must be suitably ready to install (eg. D-rings attached if framed) and installation requirements provided to the gallery via email prior to the delivery of artwork.

  • Any technical components of artwork need to be provided unless otherwise negotiated with the Gallery.

  • The Gallery will not intervene with hanging mechanisms without the prior consent of the artist.
